Moments of Madness
Life is made up of little moments. Not all of them are good and not all are bad. As human beings we often get stuck on the negative moments. They run through our minds like a broken record. They replay over and over like a film with no end. They take over the whispering voice in our mind and repeat key phrases from a difficult moment that torment and torture us.
Stop the madness!
Find the stop key, the power button, the mute button and stop the madness. For every negative moment that won’t stop replaying, repeat to yourself 3 things you are grateful for or that are positive in your life. Find a moment in your memory that makes you smile and replay it. Picture your spouse saying they love you, picture a moment that surprised you, find a happy moment to toss into the video player and replay IT in your mind instead of that negative moment.
It’s easy to hang on to past hurts, moments of pain, and negative words, but the easy way often isn’t the best way. Finding a positive moment to replace negative words or pictures might not be hard but actually replacing that negative stuff is sometimes not easy. It takes practice, a willingness to let go, and a true desire to live a happier life. At first you will have to pay attention, catch yourself replaying the negative and consciously stop and find your positive moment to replace that negative. Eventually, over time, it becomes a habit. It becomes something you do naturally in most situations.
Just for Today
Don’t decide “this is what I’m going to do from now on”, because that’s overwhelming. Decide “This is what I’m going to do today!”. And each day you can decide to do it for TODAY when you are able and willing to. Eventually you won’t have to decide except on the most difficult days because this will become a natural way of being. You’ll find yourself smiling more and struggling less.
Be in control of your thoughts, don’ t let them be in control of you. A little bit of effort can make a HUGE difference. Make a choice and make your life what you want it to be.
